RIO DE JANEIRO: A 21-year-old woman lost her life after falling more than 130 feet during a bungee jump in Brazil when the safety rope was allegedly not secured before the jump.
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was participating in a bungee-jumping activity organized by a private company at Skeleton Bridge in São Paulo state. Videos shared on social media appear to show staff releasing her from the bridge without attaching the safety cord.
Witnesses can be heard shouting, “The rope, the rope,” moments before she fell. Emergency teams rushed to the scene but were only able to confirm her death.
Authorities have arrested six individuals in connection with the incident and launched an investigation into possible negligence.
