The grim reality of drug abuse in our country has been revealed, with reports showing that in just the past ten and a half months of this year alone, over 108,000 drug-related cases have been filed in courts.
Among these statistics, the most alarming issue is related to ‘Ice’ drugs. Accordingly, the highest number of cases, 66,593, pertain to ‘Ice’ drugs.
During this period, law enforcement has seized more than 2,539.5 kilograms of ‘Ice’, highlighting the severity of the problem.
Additionally, suspects connected with 1,482.8 kilograms of ‘heroin’ have been arrested, with 58,130 cases filed. About 32.6 kilograms of ‘cocaine’ have also been confiscated, resulting in 91 cases.
Furthermore, 14,434.4 kilograms of ‘ganja’ and ‘Kerala ganja’ have been seized, leading to 58,724 cases. In conjunction, 3 million illicit tablets and 600,000 illicit capsules have been found, with 2,808 cases filed against individuals who used, sold, transported, or stored these substances.
From January 1 to October 22 of this year, across the country, a total of 191,320 drug raids were conducted, resulting in the arrest of 190,938 individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and usage.
Alongside these drug busts, law enforcement confiscated 2,097 illegal firearms, including ‘T-56 rifles’, pistols, and revolvers, further confirming the link between drug trafficking and organized crime.
During these operations, over 6.1 million people were subjected to screening, according to government reports, underscoring the extensive efforts to combat the drug menace in the country.
