
New Withanakande Ceylon Black Tea (FFExSp) has officially entered the Guinness World Records as the most expensive tea ever sold, achieving an extraordinary price of 125,000 Japanese Yen (US$860) per kilo at the annual Ceylon Special Estate Tea charity auction.
The auction, jointly organized by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Colombo Tea Merchants Association, was held alongside the World Expo Osaka in Japan. A total of 27 winning teas from the 2025 Ceylon Special Estate Tea Competition, representing all seven major tea-growing regions of Sri Lanka, were featured at the event.
More than 60 Japanese tea buyers attended, with strong interest shown in the award-winning teas. The record-breaking Withanakande tea was purchased by international company M/s. Jannet International.(News.lk)
