The Department of Census and Statistics says that the Sri Lankan economy has recorded a growth rate of 5.4% in the third quarter of 2025.
The general price level of the economy, which started to rise from the beginning of the third quarter of 2025, and the depreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee, which had remained largely stable against several major currencies, provided a boost to entrepreneurs and exporters, while the expanded domestic credit supply through the corporate and private sectors contributed to the growth recorded in the Sri Lankan economy by 5.4%, the Department of Census and Statistics states.
In addition, the increase in tourist arrivals, the increase in the supply of investment goods and the reduction in the cost of intermediate goods imports were the main factors behind the growth recorded in several manufacturing economic activities, the construction industry and many services economic activities including accommodation and food services, goods and passenger transport.
The Department of Census and Statistics further states that in the third quarter of 2025, the agricultural sector achieved growth of 3.6%, the industrial sector of 8.1% and the services sector of 3.5%.
