Market sources indicate that Sri Lanka’s fuel prices are likely to decrease slightly or remain low today after the scheduled monthly fuel price adjustment at midnight. The main reason for this expected reduction is the significant drop in global oil prices over the past month.
According to reports, during October, global oil prices fell by 3.06%. As of October 31, the prices of Brent Crude and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) also reported lower values. Factors such as increased global supply and a strong dollar have contributed to the decline in prices.
In Sri Lanka, fuel prices are determined monthly based on a formula that primarily considers global market trends, including prices from Singapore, which serve as the basis for local purchase prices. Given the noteworthy decline in global oil prices, economic analysts suggest that a slight or possibly a more substantial reduction in domestic fuel prices should occur from midnight tonight.
