The famous Louvre Museum in Paris was robbed on Sunday morning by a team of four skilled thieves. Just minutes before the museum opened, the thieves arrived in a mobile elevator, climbed up to a second-floor window, and broke in using power tools.
Once inside, they smashed two display cases and grabbed eight priceless pieces from France’s Crown Jewels collection, including necklaces, crowns, and emerald earrings once owned by queens and empresses.
Museum staff rushed to safety as alarms rang. The thieves escaped in under seven minutes, sliding down the elevator and speeding away on motorbikes.
Police say they tried to burn the elevator after fleeing but failed.
No one was hurt, but the stolen jewels are considered “inestimable”- too valuable to put a price on. The Louvre was closed for the day while police searched for clues and checked security cameras.
The thieves are still missing, and French police are continuing their investigation.
