This marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first Sri Lankan to be selected as referee for a World Cup final since Ranjan Madugalle and Vanessa de Silva.
Pereira joined the International Panel of Match Referees in 2022 alongside Vanessa de Silva and, within just three years, has earned the honor of refereeing a World Cup final. De Silva notably officiated the final of the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup in South Africa in 2023.
A former wicketkeeper and left-handed batter, Pereira represented the Colts Cricket Club nearly two decades ago. Although she was part of the national squad for several years, she did not have the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka internationally.
Nimali Perera as the fourth umpire
Adding to the Sri Lankan presence, Nimali Perera has been appointed as the fourth umpire for the upcoming final between India and South Africa. Eloise Sheridan (Australia) and Jacqueline Williams (West Indies) will serve as the on-field umpires, while Sue Redfern (England) has been designated as the third umpire.
The Women’s World Cup final will take place at the D.Y. Patel Stadium in Navi Mumbai next Sunday, featuring India and South Africa, both of whom have reached the tournament’s final for the first time.
