During the time period of this year, narcotics worth more than 40 billion rupees have been handed over to the Navy. Accordingly, operations have been intensified to prevent drug trafficking via sea routes, and steps have been taken to strengthen operations using long-distance vessels, the Sri Lanka Navy says. Meanwhile, in the western sea, the Navy has seized over 350 kilograms of heroin and ice drugs from a fishing vessel, Deputy Minister of Defence Arun Jayasekara says. The value of the heroin and ice drugs found on the seized fishing vessel is estimated to be around 50 crore rupees, Deputy Minister Arun Jayasekara also states.
