The Sri Lankan government has decided to launch a major national program called “Sri Lankan Day” with the noble aim of bringing together various ethnicities and cultures in Sri Lanka onto one platform, fostering understanding and harmony among communities.
This concept, presented by the President during the 2025 Budget Speech, will be held on December 12, 13, and 14 centered in Colombo, and will be celebrated in a grand manner.
For this national festival, four special zones will be designated covering the Colombo Municipal Grounds, Viharamahadevi Park, and main roads around them, with full participation from both state and private sectors.
The proposal, submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister for Buddhist Affairs, Religious and Cultural Affairs, has already received full approval, and the main responsibility for organizing the program is assigned to that ministry.
“Sri Lankan Day” is not limited to a celebration alone-it will feature exhibits and stalls representing unique cultural elements, vibrant food traditions, promotion of local industries from all districts, and a special platform for new inventors to showcase their creations.
The government believes this will be a unique experience celebrating Sri Lankan identity and demonstrating national unity.
