During a recent media briefing, President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that despite differences in political or economic opinions, there is no room for division when it comes to eradicating the deadly drug menace threatening the nation’s future.
He underlined the collective responsibility of all citizens to join hands in this fight, which transcends party lines and ideological divides.
The President described the devastating drug epidemic as a destructive force built by criminal networks that have corrupted the country’s financial and judicial systems, threatening the entire fabric of society.
He highlighted that the current government is taking decisive steps to halt this menace, urging everyone’s unwavering support.
He also pointed out that a culture of crime, which had grown under shadowy political protection, has now become a national crisis affecting every district.
Notably, some officials from state institutions such as the police, customs, and transportation departments have been involved in facilitating these illegal activities.
Calling for unity, the President reiterated that overcoming this crisis for the safety of future generations is an obligation everyone shares.
The launch of the national campaign against drugs, led by him, is scheduled for the 30th of this month at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.
The event will be attended by key government officials, media leaders, and representatives from the entertainment industry, marking a decisive step toward safeguarding the nation’s future.
