Sri Lanka’s Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption arrested former Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman Dhammika Ranatunga on December 15, 2025, at around 11:15 AM.
He faces serious charges tied to corrupt fuel procurement deals from 2017-2018, allegedly causing massive state losses.
Dhammika canceled three long-term fuel tenders, opting for expensive “spot tenders” instead. This decision led to an estimated Rs. 700-800 million loss to the government, as uncovered in the ongoing probe and echoed by a prior Presidential Commission of Inquiry. Unions had warned of corruption risks back in 2018.
As CPC Chairman under his brother, ex-Petroleum Minister Arjun Ranatunga, both brothers previously testified before the commission on these same irregularities.
The anti-corruption agency pursued this case for years, building on those findings. Dhammika is set to appear in Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court soon, with potential for more revelations.
