
Police have arrested a female lawyer from Kadawatha for allegedly assisting in smuggling a pistol concealed inside a copy of the Penal Code to facilitate the assassination of notorious underworld leader Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne, also known as ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa.
’The gang leader was shot dead on February 19 inside the No. 05 Magistrate’s Court at the Aluthkade Courts Complex in Hulftsdorp by a gunman disguised as a lawyer.
‘Ishara Sewwandi’, a key fugitive suspect believed to have provided the hidden weapon to the shooter, was detained in Nepal on October 14 along with several accomplices.
Currently, six suspects including Sewwandi are under intense police interrogation as investigation teams work to uncover fresh leads in the high-profile murder case.
Authorities report significant new information has emerged during Sewwandi’s questioning, shedding light on the elaborate planning behind the assassination.
