Following the united opposition’s massive rally in Nugegoda, other political parties across Sri Lanka have decided to organize public demonstrations nationwide.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is preparing an extensive campaign against the government’s policies, planning to launch this from January onward, according to SJB MP Hector Appuhamy.
Media reports indicate that SJB aims to hold another major rally soon, similar to the Nugegoda event.
The party has already begun fundraising efforts to support what will primarily be a propaganda and awareness campaign, party sources confirm.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna-led government has initiated a special intelligence investigation into how many people actually participated in the Nugegoda rally.
An official investigation team is expected to submit their findings to the government shortly.
Speaking about the Nugegoda rally, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that the event posed no threat to the government’s development plans.
He added that sincere patriotic citizens continue to support the government’s honest political path, free from corruption and deceit, and emphasized that the people will never allow the country to fall into dishonest hands again.
